My Finalist for the month of July! This has got to be one of the cutest little guys I've ever photographed. Just love those big eyes and chubby cheeks!

Second Place win for BetterPhoto's February 2010 Contest!

3/28/2010 Photographer Jodi M. Walsh of Pittsburgh, PA, has won Second Place for February in the prestigious photography contest sponsored by BetterPhoto.com, the site's founder, Jim Miotke, announced Sunday.

More than 17100 entries were submitted to the online photography contest, which attracted contestants from around the world and featured 10 separate categories.

Walsh's stunning image, "Dive", garnered top honors after being submitted in the Animals category.

The contest is conducted each month. Categories include Nature and Landscapes, Animals, People, Elements of Design, Digital Darkroom, Travel and Place, Flowers, Details and Macro, Catch-All, and Monthly Theme. Judging is performed by a panel of professional photographers.

I was so excited this afternoon to find that I've gotten my second finalist in the BetterPhoto monthly context. This was 1 of 21300 photos entered for the month of July and 1 of 464 selected to be a finalist!

BetterPhoto Picture of the Day

okay, I'm really excited here because I woke up this morning to see an email saying one of my pictures has been selected as a Picture of the Day for BetterPhoto. What it means is that my picture was chosen to be published on today's newsletter. I thought it was pretty cool and it happens to be one of my favorite pictures.

A Finalist

Simplicity

I'm thrilled to learn that I received my first finalist in the Better Photo Monthly Photo contest. Out of over 21000 entries, my photo was one of 530 to make it to the finalist round of judging. For information on the contest go to BetterPhoto.com

Caleb pic

I haven't been able to get any new pictures of Caleb lately. We've been battling colds which has meant a lot of runny noses and crankiness (not exactly ideal conditions for cute pictures). So I pulled out my shots from Phipps back in October and started playing around with them.

i put a bit of a copper tinge to this and softened the focus to give it an aged and dreamy feel.

these are pieces of blown glass that i zoomed in on. i just really liked the lines and colors and how they came together.

oh, i put up the link to my Better Photo gallery. this is where i enter photos to get critique. it's a great site.

Update for 11/13

I haven't posted for a while because I've been really busy with life and with photography. We just celebrated my daughter's first birthday and had the big party over the weekend. I got some nice pictures of her but the lighting wasn't the best and I've recently discovered that my flash that I had bought years ago for my original film Canon Rebel doesn't work with my new DSLR. That's made shooting indoors very tricky. There was also the added complication that while I really wanted to just be the "photographer" at the party, I still had to be mom and play hostess.

Besides all of that, I've been very busy doing some photo shoots for friends so there's been a lot of post-editing. I'm really happy with how I'm improving and I'm getting a lot of positive feedback. So I'm generally feeling pretty good about all of this, though I didn't expect it to take off this fast.

I'm also happy to have 3 photos that earned EFPs on the BetterPhoto website. What does that mean? Well, the website runs a monthly photo contest and earning an EFP (Editor's First Pick) means that the photo made it past the first round of judging for October's contest. I'm just so excited to have actual professional photographers recognize my work.
