Summer Time Changes

I've been contemplating when to post this but now that it's July, I think it's time. There will be big changes at the end of this month for me and my family. We moving out of Oakland (the city) and heading to the North Hills (the suburbs). It's sad that we'll no longer be walking distance to the library, the museum and of course Dave & Andy's but it'll be so nice to have a little more space and a little more quiet.
How does that affect Jodi Walsh Photography?
Well, for now, I'm completely booked for July so I will not be scheduling more sessions for this month. Also I'll be taking the month of August off. We're moving out of our current house at the end of this month but the new house won't be ready until the end of August so we'll be in limbo for some time. It's not exactly the best way to manage a business but it's also not too bad because we get to spend time with our family in NJ and with my family out in Derry. I'm still crossing my fingers that the house might be finished ahead of schedule :-) because I'd much rather be setting up my new house even though lounging by my mom's pool is a happy alternative.
Other than the change of address and the complications of the actual move, nothing about my business will change. I will continue to travel into Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas to provide beautiful photos for my clients. I will also be keeping up with email and hopefully posting more pics from our adventures moving.
And in September, I'll be back with a Back-to-School special...I'm thinking possibly a mini-session morning but details will follow sometime in August :-)
Now, I just hate saying no to people so if you are interested in pictures, please contact me in September when I'll be able to say yes again :-)
I've really enjoyed being so busy this year and meeting new clients! You guys are the best and I hope that the new location will give me new opportunities to share my photography with others as well.

Changes Coming

First off, I want to thank all my family, friends and most of all, my clients for their support as I've worked to really develop this business. I've never felt so excited about something I was creating and with this business, I get to create on many levels- from setting up sessions, to processing the images to building this business. It's been a great ride for me and I'm looking forward to all I will accomplish in the future.
Now for the changes...
Over the next week or two, I plan on unveiling a new website to provide easier access and more information on what a custom photography session with me is like. This has been in the works for a while and I'm excited to say that it's finally going to be a reality.
With the new website, I will be increasing my print prices. I love what I do and I love that I can provide this service to not only clients but also to friends. Unfortunately, if this is going to be a viable business, I need to compete with others who offer these same services. In order to keep my session fee low, it's necessary that I raise my print prices. To help ease this, I've put together packages that provide a sampling of print sizes at a discounted price.
Print Prices a la carte
5x7 - $10.00
8x10 - $20.00
11x14- $30.00
wallets- $10.00 per sheet(4 print per sheet)
Luster finish on all prints- the brilliance of a glossy finish with the fingerprint resistance of a matte finish.
Digital CD- $100.00 (25 retouched digital files, including B&W, with permission to print up to size 8x10 prints)
There are also other products available for purchase, including ready-to-hang prints, wrapped canvas prints and photo cards with envelopes as well as coffee table and memory books. My goal is create one of a kind works of art to be displayed for years to come and I'm willing to provide any products that you may be interested.
Packages-
Package A - $50
2- 8x10
2- 5x7
2- sheets of wallets (1 pose per sheet)
Package B - $95
1- 11x14
2- 8x10
4- 5x7
3- sheets of wallets(1 pose per sheet)
add on the digital CD for an additional $50
Package C - $200
1- 16x20 mounted, ready-to-hang print
4- 8x10
4- 5x7
4- sheets of wallets (1 pose per sheet)
add on the digital CD for an additional $20
***tax is not included***
In addition to the packages, I'm starting an incentive program. Refer 3 friends who book sessions with me during the next year and receive a $50 print credit towards your next photo session. I also plan on doing contests, give-a-ways and specials on a regular basis so be checking the blog and my facebook fan page to be up to date with what's going on and ways to save.
Thank you again for your continued support! Without you all, none of this would be possible!

Recognition!

One of my photos of the polar bears from last May was published on a photography site, 1x.com I was really excited to discover that yesterday afternoon. Just glancing through the work on the site and you can quickly see that there are some seriously talented photographers there. I was thrilled that one of my photos was recognized.
This particular photo was taken at the Pittsburgh Zoo in the polar bear tunnel. A tunnel runs under the pool where the polar bears swim and gives you a great view. I spent about 15-20 minutes taking pictures as this guy swam back and forth and this particular shot is my favorite.
It's funny, just the other day I was feeling a little down, my it's the let down of the holidays or the umpteenth day of snowy, cold weather. I don't know but lately I've been a little disappointed with my work and beginning to question my abilities. If you know me, you know that I always do this :-) Winter is the hardest time. Not seeing the sun not only brings my mood down but also makes it even more challenging to take good photographs. This little bit of recognition gave me just the boost that I needed.
Coming soon- a newborn session and 1 yr old pics so be watching!

Back to Work
So I've been fortunate to have spent time these past two weekends taking pictures. The first was a 19 mos old and his mom and despite some low lighting, I think I was able to capture some special shots. They were so nice and patient- I was a little nervous, this was my first time taking pictures of someone I had never met before. Then last weekend, I got to meet and photograph my friend's new baby girl (5 weeks old). Such a beautiful little girl. She was so alert and pleasant most of the time I was there. And she loved to kick her legs and wiggle around. It made me miss Sadie being so small.

Here are some of my shots

Update for 11/13
I haven't posted for a while because I've been really busy with life and with photography. We just celebrated my daughter's first birthday and had the big party over the weekend. I got some nice pictures of her but the lighting wasn't the best and I've recently discovered that my flash that I had bought years ago for my original film Canon Rebel doesn't work with my new DSLR. That's made shooting indoors very tricky. There was also the added complication that while I really wanted to just be the "photographer" at the party, I still had to be mom and play hostess.
Besides all of that, I've been very busy doing some photo shoots for friends so there's been a lot of post-editing. I'm really happy with how I'm improving and I'm getting a lot of positive feedback. So I'm generally feeling pretty good about all of this, though I didn't expect it to take off this fast.
I'm also happy to have 3 photos that earned EFPs on the BetterPhoto website. What does that mean? Well, the website runs a monthly photo contest and earning an EFP (Editor's First Pick) means that the photo made it past the first round of judging for October's contest. I'm just so excited to have actual professional photographers recognize my work.
well, back to work
