Little Miss C!

January has started out busier than I had expected and I'm loving it! The past few years of doing photography, I've gotten used to a lull that often happens right after Christmas. There is the mad scramble in November and December to have Christmas portraits and I'm working like crazy to fill orders on top of getting my own gifts together. Then the holidays end and it's back to the real world.

This year I was happily surprised to be contacted right before Christmas to set up a session at the beginning of January. Little Miss C turned one on New Year's Eve and her mama was looking forward to getting some pictures of her little angel at Phipps Conservatory. (This is a gorgeous place to visit if you're ever in the Pittsburgh area) After being thwarted a couple of times- by colds - we were finally able to meet up one morning for a walk through the gardens and some great pictures. :-)

Miss C's mama was a delight to work with. She had had similar 1 yr pics done with her 2 older children and in fact, our little model was wearing the dress that big sis wore for her 1 yr pictures.

She looked like a little antique doll in her long dress with her toes sticking out and for the most part was happy to investigate the gardens.

It was such an enjoyable morning, I'm hoping to go back soon for more sessions!

Newborn Special!

I absolutely love babies! (Not too many women my age don't) :-) I also love taking pictures of babies but besides my own two monkeys, I haven't had a ton of opportunities to take pictures of brand new little ones. Last week, I had the privilege of being able to take pictures of this sweet little angel and I very much want to do more :-)

So here's an opportunity for all of you who follow my work...

Book a newborn photo session with me and I'll give you a CD of your session for free. What I'm asking for is that we work together to schedule your session within the first 2 weeks after birth. All too quickly these little ones lose that precious newborn look and I want to record those first moments with you new little one as best as I can. The session will be relaxed and I do allow time for feedings and napping and we can include family members as well. The CD will include 20 enhanced images with permission for personal printing up to size 8x10 (a $20 value).

Recognition!

One of my photos of the polar bears from last May was published on a photography site, 1x.com I was really excited to discover that yesterday afternoon. Just glancing through the work on the site and you can quickly see that there are some seriously talented photographers there. I was thrilled that one of my photos was recognized.

This particular photo was taken at the Pittsburgh Zoo in the polar bear tunnel. A tunnel runs under the pool where the polar bears swim and gives you a great view. I spent about 15-20 minutes taking pictures as this guy swam back and forth and this particular shot is my favorite.

It's funny, just the other day I was feeling a little down, my it's the let down of the holidays or the umpteenth day of snowy, cold weather. I don't know but lately I've been a little disappointed with my work and beginning to question my abilities. If you know me, you know that I always do this :-) Winter is the hardest time. Not seeing the sun not only brings my mood down but also makes it even more challenging to take good photographs. This little bit of recognition gave me just the boost that I needed.
